Silverstone Race ReportThe penultimate round of the Relentless British 125 Championship was held at a sunny Silverstone and Brian Clark, rider for the Northumberland based Banks Racing/Xpress Racewear British Championship 125 team rode a very impressive race after a slow start that saw him complete the first lap in 12th place to finish a very creditable 5th place. Friday’s two twenty minute free practice sessions saw Brian sitting in 6th place. Feeling
confident for Saturday’s two qualifying sessions the best engine parts were fitted including a
new piston assembly and Brian set off to do two steady laps to run everything in. Just as he
started his first flying lap disaster struck with a very uncharacteristic engine seizure. Both Brian
and team owner Pete Banks new that all the settings and temperatures were correct leaving
both baffled why this had happened. Following a strip down it was found the teams best JHA A hurried rebuild using
old parts saw Brian back on track for the second qualifying where he did a great job of getting
the bike on the second row. Some changes were made for Sunday’s warm-up and another new
piston was fitted and after again doing a couple of steady laps Brian finished the session The bad start in the race was caused by being held on the line a little longer than usual allowing the engine temperature to get a little too hot. Without a doubt this cost Brian the chance of adding another win to his impressive results this year.
